Parker, My brother

I'm still working on studio portraits and trying very hard not to get frustrated with the lights. It's complicated getting everything orchestrated correctly. One strobe isn't flashing. Then I fix it. A wizard isn't firing. I change the channel. After 15 minutes of set up, 15 minutes of fixing any firing problems, I'm finally ready to take the portrait. Then the model shows up 15 minutes late and I have 15 minutes to shoot 16 different portraits with different lighting set ups. I get stressed! Ha. But I'm getting better at it and I appreciate what I'm learning in this class. This week's studio vicitim was my brother, whom I've never used before. I think he did pretty well!

Clarice

I discovered the reflector and I'm learning how to use it for my portrait class. And I love it! For this assignment, I used the silver reflector for additive light. My best friend, Clarice was so kind to pose for me. Anyone else want me to take their picture??? I'll do it for free since it's for a class! I think these portraits turned out wonderfully. It helps that Clarice is absolutely beautiful!

Studio

I'm in a portrait photography class this semester. I've had to brush up on my studio skills. Studio photography isn't as frustrating as it was for me a few months ago. I think I'm starting to like it a little more now! These few photographs were taken only with one light and a very very large softbox. My friend Emily was lovely enough to pose for me.

I gave Emily a chance to move out of the spotlight and have some fun taking pictures herself.

Summer

I've had a lovely semester at BYU Idaho and a lot of it has to do with the wonderful roommates I've had for the last six months.  Yesterday, I pulled my film camera out and took a few photographs of these wonderful girls, and got in front of the camera myself for a few (thanks to Chelsey and Alex for taking those pictures!).  It was a beautiful evening and these ladies really shined through for these images. Thanks to you ladies for an unforgettable semester!

Abbey Susie

This semester I'm taking a Studio Lighting class.  I haven't enjoyed it very much, and I haven't produced anything that I've been proud to call mine, lately.  But, finally, I think I've turned up some good photos and it's all thanks to my lovely, beautiful, babe of a sister, Abbey.  Isn't she just lovely??  My subject assignment was texture.  I asked Abbey to do some hand positions for me.  I took several shots of her hands, and in the mean time, a few shots of her face.

This is my final shot for the project.  Hopefully my teacher likes it!

Paris Picture

This is a picture that I took while in Paris last year.  In my historical processes class, a few weeks ago, I reprinted this picture using the Van Dyke brown process.  I love rich browns and the light brown highlights.  This is one of my favorites so far in this class!

Los Angeles: Days 3 and 4

After driving in a van for 13 plus hours to Los Angeles from Rexburg, ID, I was certainly glad that it was worth the trip! Here are some more shots on the trip.

Los Angeles: Days 1 and 2

This past week I had the amazing opportunity to go to Los Angeles with a few people from the Art Department at BYU Idaho. The trip was full of art, culture....and some culture shock! It was a lovely trip full of art museums and lots and lots of picture taking. I honestly can't say if I've ever even been to a museum in the United States. I enjoyed seeing new things and learning new things. Here, I've posted just a few of the photos I took while in Cali.

On our way down to California, we stopped in Utah at the Spiral Jetty. It was covered pretty well in water, but still in was a beautiful site. Did you know that one reason why the artist decided to put the Jetty in the Salt Lake was because of the red algae that grows there? I thought that was an interesting fact. The water had a pinkish tint to it.

We stopped by the Norman Simon Museum and saw beautiful paintings by Van Gogh, Cezzane, and Picaso, as well as these beautiful sculptures by Edgar Degas. (I really hope I'm spelling all of these names correctly!)

I wish I knew the name of this type of tree....it was in the gardens of the Norman Simon Museum.
