I need your help! If you know me or my style of photography, you would know that I prefer straight photography with simple poses and lighting. I don't like anything to be too fancy or out of the ordinary. I don't want photoshop to be the main attraction of my photographs. I love simple and sophisticated photographs that reflect the subject's character while using photoshop only to boost what I've done. Not change the photograph completely. I'm not saying I always do this well, but that's my intention. Recently I've been playing around with different techniques that may be going completely against my beliefs in photography. So, I would like some opinions. I'm not saying at all what I think of these photographs, but I would like to know what YOU think and prefer. SO please, let me know by email or leave a comment below. Thanks!

In the pictures of me, sydney and elise (close up and wet)I can't really tell what you changed. But I think they all look great! And I like the changes you made to all the rest! All your pictures look great- no matter what! You have a great talent.
ReplyDelete[Note: I know nothing, really, about photography. I just know what I like looking at and what I'd be willing to pay for as a client.] I love your style. I've browsed a lot of professional photography websites, and I definitely agree that I prefer the more simple shots where the first thing I notice is not creepily glowing eyes or neon colors. However (like in the first photo up top), some effects can, I think, be done well. I think as long as they're done *on purpose* and *well*, and not to satisfy a blanket desire to make it look cooler, that they can be great. I agree that the focus of a photograph should be the people and/or place and/or emotion. Sometimes effects enhance those things; sometimes they detract. Umm, sorry for the novel there. :-)
ReplyDeleteReady for another novel?
ReplyDeleteThe first one is great, but it feels a little bit bipolar. The lighting and the compressed values work very well to create a mood, but it seems to be a different mood than the pose would indicate. The lighting says noir while the pose is very natural.
Also, i'm in love with the umbrella. There's something ghostly about it that is quite delicious.
I first saw it on my crappy computer, and now i'm on my iMac. On the bad monitor the highest value was a lot closer to white, and i think i might like it better that way. Just a thought.
As for the others, your edits are still pretty conservative and you wear them well. Maybe it's time for more wild experiments!
